Deutsche Grammophon/Mercury Classics
Internationally acclaimed pianist YUNDI is set to release a new album for Deutsche Grammophon and Mercury Classics, Emperor/Fantasy, featuring Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto along with a performance of the major solo work, Schumann’s Fantasie in C. Available on April 22, 2014, this album marks YUNDI’s second recording with the Berlin Philharmonic and conductor Daniel Harding.
Deemed the “classical pianist with a rock star following” by CNN, YUNDI has developed an astounding profile in his homeland of China, with 15 million Weibo followers (Chinese Twitter) and his 2013 Dream China Tour qualifying as the largest classical tour in China’s history. YUNDI’s star continues to grow as his 2012 recording of Beethoven’s most romantic piano sonatas was chosen as one of Classic FM’s ‘Album of the Year 2013’ in addition to achieving Platinum status in China.
YUNDI was born in Chongqing, in the province of Sichuan, in 1982. After winning several prizes as a child for his accordion playing, he switched to the piano at seven, and subsequently trained at the Shenzhen Arts School. He later studied with the acclaimed Israeli pianist Arie Vardi at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover.
