Celebrated Handelian and Grammy award winner René Jacobs’ makes his opera debut on Deutsche Grammophon with new album, Händel: Orlando, set to release on May 13th, 2014. Released under the Archiv imprint of Deutsche Grammophon, the opera is the first studio recording of a complete opera for the label since 2011 and ties in with the major revival of the critically acclaimed 2012 stage production by Pierre Audi in Amsterdam and a European concert tour that begins in June.
Led by Jacobs, the dynamic B’Rock Baroque Orchestra Ghent and an outstanding cast featuring countertenor Bejun Mehta in the title role, was recorded at Concertgebouw Brugge in the summer of 2013. Following the well-received recordings of Handel’s Giulio Cesare in 1991, Rinaldo in 2003, and Agrippina in 2011, Jacobs makes an eagerly anticipated return with Händel: Orlando. Jacobs’ career has spanned four decades with repertoire that includes everything from operatic and instrumental, Monteverdi to Mozart, Bach to Pergolesi, to Händel, Gluck, Telemann and many others.
