Decca Releases Rossini’s LE COMTE ORY and OTELLO on DVD/Blu-Ray This Spring Featuring Cecilia Bartoli and Javier Camarena
This acclaimed production of Le Comte Ory was recorded live in 2011 at the Zurich Opera House and showcases not only Cecilia Bartoli’s comic gifts, but her naturalness as a stage actor. Muhai Tang conducts the historical performance ensemble La Scintilla and the cast includes young Mexican tenor Javier Camarena in the title role of Rossini’s first French language comedy opera. Camarena has recently been seen subbing for Juan Diego Flórez in the first three performances of the Metropolitan Opera’s La Cenerentola to which he has received rave reviews: “Mr. Camarena has emerged as a major tenor” – New York Times
Le Comte Ory was released in anticipation of Bartoli’s 2014 Whitsun Festival at Salzburg “Rossinissmo” and in time for her appearance at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris in April 2014 as Desdemona in Rossini’s Otello.
AVAILABLE MAY 6th
Bartoli made her long-anticipated debut in the role of Desdemona in Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier’s new production of Rossini’s Otello for the Zurich Opera House, recorded live in 2012.
Rossini’s unusual scoring of the drama calls for three tenor supporting roles – here sung by long-standing Bartoli collaborators John Osburn and Javier Camarena and newcomer Edgardo Rocha.
Bartoli’s performance received glowing reviews with the New York Times stating: “Ms. Bartoli…displayed…the dazzling strengths that have characterized her work since the beginning. It is obvious that she has plotted out every musical and dramatic moment: every subtle diminuendo, every gesture. But her charm — those twinkling eyes, those powerful low notes — is such that the effect doesn’t feel overly calculated.”05/02/2014
